26 October 2024 at 14.00–15.30
An illustration of a woman with brown skin, red cat's eye glasses and long brown locs

'Front cover of Grandma's Locs (Tate Publishing) by Karen Arthur, illustrated by Camilla Ru

Hear a new story, dress-up and move together

Join us for a book reading and draw along event to celebrate new Tate children's publication, Grandma’s Locs by Karen Arthur, illustrated by Camilla Ru.

Grandma has beautiful locs. Whenever she comes to visit, she wears them in so many wonderful ways! Celebrating the beauty of natural Black hair, this debut picture book is an infectious, imaginative and colourfully illustrated tale about the love that is shared between family. Hear author of Grandma’s Locs Karen Arthur read aloud, while you draw along with illustrator Camilla Ru.

Try on some carnival-inspired costume and think about your own heritage through exploring textiles, dressing up and moving together.

About the author
