Children painting on a wall in a colourful studio space

Paint Room, Tate Britain © Pearl Cook

Play and experiment with paint in a child-led studio space for families of all ages

Explore different ways of painting together - parents and carers included! Mix colours and make your own mark inspired by art at Tate Britain. Make something alone or together. Create marks, patterns and other effects. How do the colours make you feel? You can take your artwork home or leave it for someone else to add to.

Recommended for families with children under 16

Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting messy!

Devised by Tate’s Early Years’ and Families’ team. Graphics by Alessia Arcuri. Play Studio is supported by Mr. and Mrs. Pozzi.

Tate Britain's step-free entrance is on Atterbury Street. It has automatic sliding doors and there is a ramp down to the entrance with central handrails.

There is a lift between the Lower and Main floors. Alternatively you can take the stairs.

  • Accessible and standard toilets are located on the Lower floor.
  • A Changing Places toilet is not currently available.
  • Ear defenders can be borrowed from the ticket desk on the Lower floor.
